Revelation 12:11 tells us that…they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. This is the theme verse for the Overcomers, the youth department of Elim Open Bible Church. The mandate of the department is to ensure that each and every young person who is a member or even visits, is provided with an opportunity to develop personally, both emotionally and spiritually. There is a deep desire to reach out to the youths in and around the church as a way of building the church and winning souls for Christ. The Overcomers seek to give our youths an opportunity to be expressive without the restrictions that come with a normal church setting. Most importantly we help them to understand the importance of their relationship with Christ and the things of Christ among their peers.
The Overcomers Department caters to individuals between the age of 13 and 30, and also the young at heart.Meetings are held two Fridays per month and since recently, are held on two Sundays each month. A wide range of programs are developed to help individuals understand what is required as Christians for proper spiritual growth. Our engaging programs seek to excite our youths and help them not only to form a love for the things of God, but to want to hold steadfast to his word, and his work. All of this while having fun and learning about ourselves and each other.
At the helm of the ministry is our President, Nateessia Braham. The executive is covered by the youth minister, Minister Owen Wilson, who provides guidance and the well needed spiritual covering. This team of youths oversees program creation and carries out other duties of the department. Past presidents of the department are also looked to for advice.
Our Annual Youth Crusade has been at the base of our outreach activities for years and has brought many young persons into knowing the Lord. It has also been a time of strengthening for our saved young persons. Our vision is to engage the youth of the neighboring communities by introducing activities such as sports and talent competitions, just to name a few, in order to draw them in. And with that, we envision an opportunity of ministry for the group.
We continue to seek ways to develop the next generation of leaders and to create new and innovative programs. Our aim is to let young people within our communities, and other members know that we are here for them; we care about them and will do whatever it takes to help them on the path to righteousness. Additionally, we want to foster an enjoyment for the things of God and show that there is delight and joy in the kingdom of God and with the things of God.
