The Women of Elim
The Women of Worth (WOW), like the Men of Vision, is a national ministry found throughout the Open Bible Standard churches across the globe. The mandate of the ministry is to establish a medium through which women can fellowship and develop sustainable relationships for growth and empowerment. The women are guided by the motto “Let her own work praise her in her gates” and the scripture proverbs 31:21-31.
Elim’s WOW group has Sis. Donna Powell-Wilson as the President and she is supported by Vice President Sis Dorothy Clarke; Secretary Novelette Rhoden Allen; Asst Secretary, Sis Hilma Singh; Treasurer, Sis Zeporah Clarke; Asst Treasurer, Sis Joy Barnett; Prayer Coordinator Claudette Burrell and Sis Vivienne Kidd is the Events Coordinator. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month, with programs designed to uplift, encourage, educate, challenge and entertain. Additionally, on 3rd Sundays, the WOW takes charge of both the morning and evening services. As the WOW seeks to expand its reach, an invitation to join is extended to all ladies who are members of Open Bible.
Over the years, WOW has and continues to support the church’s effort in caring for its senior citizens. These efforts include Christmas get together and care baskets. Also, the ladies have engaged in activities that seek to develop their skills in homemaking and evangelism.
The group’s mission is and continues to be; to attract more women to the ministry, in particular younger women and to become more engaged in evangelizing to women in and around the community we serve. One avenue being used to groom the younger generation is through the Visionettes.
Visionettes
The Visionettes is the national programme of Open Bible Standard churches of Jamaica for girls of junior and teen ages. It is an auxiliary of the WOW and offers Christ-centered activities which relate Christ to every area of a girl’s life. The young girls are led by Sis Marva Wilson who is supported by Sis Joy Barnett, Sis Maureen Dunkley and Sis Deidra Virgo.
The girls are guided by their motto “To serve the present age” and the scripture, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8. They meet every 2nd and 4th Saturday.
Forward and Onward
As we carry out our efforts to attract and engage more women from the community, we hope that while we promote spiritual transformation, we also provide a godly medium through which ladies can network and grow together.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”— Proverbs 31:25
