Psalm 34:15:

“The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.”

A House of Prayer

Prayer and intercession are of paramount importance to the Elim Open Bible church and can be considered as the engine which powers all its other ministries and efforts.  God boldly declares in Isaiah 56:7 that; “Even them I will bring to My Holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations,” and it is these immortal words from God that guides the Prayer and Intercessory ministry on its mission to make Elim “a house of prayer”.

This ministry is led by Minister Courtney Walters and comprises of the Intercessory group, led by Sis Claudette Burrell; the Children’s prayer and intercessory group, led by Sis Marva Wilson and all prayer coordinators and cell group leaders. There are no special requirements to be a member of this diverse ministry; excepting a deep conviction that effective, fervent prayer is a necessity to the life of a believer of Jesus Christ and a burning desire to learn how to pray.

The mandate of the ministry is to be the ‘watchmen’ of the Elim Open Bible Church, and their vision is for the church, through training and encouragement, to be united in prayer. There are many ways to get in touch with the prayer and intercessory ministry. Persons can either; submit their prayer requests by way of the prayer request box, attend one of the various cell group meetings, or attend a Tuesday morning deliverance meeting or a Thursday morning fasting service.

The ministry continues to find effective ways of establishing Elim as a house of prayer. These include: plans to establish a prayer room and library, development of a prayer crisis and healing team and the creation of additional cell groups. All this, and more in an effort to give each and every person that sets foot in the Elim Open Bible Church an opportunity to grow as a believer and to taste and see the goodness of God through ceaseless prayer.

Mission Statement

We understand and are committed to fulfilling the vital role

as intercessors.

We have answered the call to stand in the gap for God’s

people and for those who will come to know Him.

For us as intercessors -

We commit to being prepared.

To be prepared mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

We understand that this is not a duty, but a privilege to connect

with God.

We commit to live with purpose.

To represent God.

To represent our church as a vehicle of ministry.

We declare that we will pray using and according to God’s Word.

To base prayers on the Word of God and His promises.

To lead in/with/by prayers that are scriptural and focus on God’s clear and direct promises.

We believe that there is power in prayer, in the name of the Lord and in the Word of God. Our commitment is to intercede on behalf of others as the Spirit of God leads us.

We avail ourselves as servants of the Most High God, with a vision of the church to which we belong and in support of our spiritual head, Rev. Valerie Blake, our Board and leaders of all ministries.

We will pray for our local church, the universal church, homes, communities and for the salvation of the lost.

We are wholly committed to God; we believe God for healing, deliverance and the supernatural things to be unlocked.

Hebrews 4:16

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Isaiah 62:6

I have set watchmen upon thy walls O Jerusalem, [which] shall never hold their peace day nor night: Ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence.

James 5:13-16

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.  Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
